Following is a list of our current group therapy offerings. If you would like to join one of these therapy groups, please call for more information.

Early Recovery Group
Tuesdays 4–5:30pm
Facilitated by Kip Young, LADC
and Milja Brecher-DeMuro, LMSW-CC
This is a group for individuals who are in the process of establishing a personal program of recovery. The group will provide peer support as well as a strong educational component. Information on chemical dependency as a disease, its effects on the family, basics of recovery, and skills needed to live a comfortable and successful sober life will be presented and discussed.

Aftercare Group
Wednesdays 3:30-5pm
Facilitated by Kip Young, LADC and Milja Brecher-DeMuro, LMSW-CC

This group is intended to support those who are internally motivated for recovery and have either completed an IOP program, rehabilitation program or other recovery program and feel strong in their recovery, have demonstrated sobriety and are looking for continued group support.

Men’s Group
Thursdays 4–5:30pm
Facilitated by Ed Oechslie, M.A., ATR-BC, LCPC, CCS

This 10-week group is for men who are survivors of trauma, and utilizes both psycho-educational and process modalities to alleviate symptoms of PTSD. The participants will have a safe space to reveal pain and witness others doing the same, in a context far different from any they may have experienced to date.

Teen "Drop in" Groups

Wednesdays 9:45am and 1:15pm – Tech Wing MDIHS

Facilitated by Kip Young, LADC and Milja Brecher-DeMuro, LMSW-CC

Held at MDI High School, this group is one where students pick the topic - whether it be relationships, alcohol, drugs, sex, parents, peers, bullying - and have a place where they can share their story and be provided non-judgmental, consequence-free guidence by caring, easy going, and thoughtful adults with clinical backgrounds. Contact Milja Brecher-DeMuro at Acadia Family Center for more information.

APT (Acadia Parent and Teen Group)
Day and time to be announced
Facilitated by Kip Young, LADC and Milja Brecher-DeMuro, LMSW-CC

Through a dynamic mix of education, talk therapy and experiential processing activities, families will participate in a 10 week program where parents/guardians and teens will explore Substance Use, Conflict Resolution, Communication, Rebuilding Trust, Boundaries & Structure, Strengths & Protective Factors, and Fears and Dreams.   Participants will complete the program with new skills and a strengthened understanding of effective ways to communicate, connect and support each other.

Seeking Safety Group
Day and time to be announced
Facilitated by Mary Veit, Ph.D., LCSW

This group is highly structured for women recovering from substance abuse and trauma. For persons with this prevalent and difficult-to-treat co-occurring disorder, the most urgent clinical need is to establish safety—to work toward discontinuing substance abuse, letting go of dangerous relationships, and gaining control over such extreme symptoms as dissociation and self-harm.

Friends and family group
Day and time to be announced
Facilitated by Kip Young, LADC

This group focuses on the specific issues of affected others (those in relationship with addicted persons, or those raised in an addicted household). In a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, participants will explore how to integrate new skills into living a healthy, self-directed life.

arT thErapy Group

Day and time to be announced

Both individual and collaborative art therapy directives are used in this group. The creative process of art therapy allows group members to express and understand their emotions, as well as to utilize their subconscious in a therapeutic setting.
