John Smith grew up in a small town in Michigan and later moved to Florida. He attended school at Vandelay Industries College and went on to work for the New York Yankees.

As the former Director of the Emmaus Shelter, she worked with the homeless and at-risk homeless populations. Cindy uses her dog, Chara, with Animal Assisted Canine therapy to improve clients’ social,emotional, or cognitive functioning.   Daniel C. Johnson, PhD, LCPC, CCS    Executive Director   Dan came to AFC with over 20 years experience working at Acadia Hospital in Bangor, on both inpatient and outpatient units. He has specialized in work with adolescents, and individuals dealing with PTSD. He has a particular interest in delivering services to veterans. He has a wealth of experience in designing training programs to meet the needs of clinicians.

  Hilary Chermak, MS, ATR-BC, LCPC    Art Therapist   Hilary obtained her Master of Science in Art Therapy from Mount Mary University in Milwaukee and loves working with individuals one on one while allowing art to guide and heal. Hilary is DEEP certified and treats children, adolescents and adults with various substance use and mental health disorders, including clients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid addiction. In her spare time, she paints, bikes, and hikes.

Hilary is DEEP certified and treats children, adolescents and adults with various substance use and mental health disorders, including clients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid addiction. In her spare time, she paints, bikes, and hikes.

 
  Teresa King-LeClair, LCPC    Clinical Therapist   Teresa has been providing counseling services on Mount Desert Island since 1996. She joined the staff of AFC in November 2016, and she assists clients with depression, grief, loss, stress management, relational conflicts, emotional trauma, and Medication Assisted Treatment of opioid addiction. She is DEEP certified, and her primary counseling approach is cognitive/behavioral treatment. Teresa’s goal is to assist clients in strengthening their current coping mechanisms or to assist them in discovering more appropriate skills.

She and her husband moved here from Homer, Alaska in August 2017, and she enjoys hiking, fishing, and time with family.
