Clinical Treatment Philosophy
At our Southwest Harbor out-patient treatment home, we believe in treating the person, not just their issues, and try to do so with compassion, empathy, and sensitivity. Our clients may have mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or the combination of the two, also known as co-occurring disorders. Common mental health issues include depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and relationship problems.
We believe in multiple approaches for treating substance use. Frequently, we use a harm reduction model when it comes to substance abuse treatment and try to “meet people where they are.” We also believe in medication assisted treatment when treating opioid addiction and have a Suboxone program. There may be times when complete abstinence is immediately necessary, which is frequently the case with alcohol and other substances.
We currently are accepting clients in all of our programs. Dr. Johnson runs Chronic Pain groups that utilize cognitive therapy and mindfulness and are 8-weeks in length after an initial evaluation. Our MAT program utilizes only Suboxone unless the client is pregnant. Our counselors run weekly MAT groups as well as later therapy hours on Wednesdays.
